Sermon on 30 April 2023 by Pastor Justin Chia
Genesis 18:14 - “Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.””
Grace reaches out to all Christians everyday. Grace us a divine favour from God. This favour, if upon you, bad things cannot stay in your body. It's God’s unmerited favour. We don’t have to work to earn it. It’s not based on our own merit. It’s given to us undeserving people freely. We just have to receive it. God has never forsaken us even though we are such wicked people. God’s grace and His kindness is his benevolence to the unworthy. We are all so unworthy. You cannot earn it. We have to believe that we are saved, and favour is upon us. Whatever we do is because of His grace. Then we can come humbly before Him and worship Him. We are receiving the grace of God everyday. Because of what Jesus has done for us, all our sins were upon Him on the cross and we are saved through faith.
Ephesians 2:8 - “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”
We have turned from disgrace to this grace. God’s grace knows no bounds, proving us with tools to conquer any obstacles. It is the grace of God that grants us the Holy Spirit which dwells in each of us.
Hebrews 12:2 - “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”
Titus 2:11-12 - “For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,”
Grace also prepares us for a godly life. With God’s grace, we can overcome any obstacles and face any challenges. We don’t belong to this world, our citizenship is in heaven.
Romans 16:20 - “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”
When we pray, we must have the right attitude that will grant us peace. The God of Peace crushed Satan under our feet. We don’t need any spell to cast our demons, it’s the peace of God.
Grace wins every time. Sometimes God allows sickness to give us an opportunity to touch His grace and strengthen our faith. Grace is always upon Christians who are humble and lowly. Jesus was so humble to the point of death.
James 4:6 - “And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.””
The grace of God is a free gift of Hor to all who believe. Grace is only through Jesus Christ.
John 1:14 - “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”
John 1:17 - “For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.”
What is peace? The Hebrew name is Shalom. It means completeness, wellness, tranquility, good health and prosperity. When someone wishes you Shalom, it is very powerful. Grace and peace are always connected. You cannot have peace without grace. In Paul’s Epistle, he always says grace and peace be upon you.
John 14:27 - ““I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
God’s power of grace shows up, peace and goodwill towards men. Jesus gives us life and the way. Let not your heart by troubled.
Luke 2:14 - ““Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.””
Isaiah 9:6 - “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
John 14:27 - ““I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Philippians 4:7 - “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
His grace is often shown in the midst of a ‘fire’ we are experiencing. The peace of God surpasses all understanding. His grace is the voice to call us to change. His grace is the voice to call us to be transformed. His grace is always sufficient for us. God will help those who can’t help themselves. His grace will shape our living.
Titus 2:11-12 - “For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God,”
2 Corinthians 3:18 - “So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 - “Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
1 Timothy 1:14 - “Oh, how generous and gracious our Lord was! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus.”
Genesis 18:14 - “Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.””
There’s nothing too hard for the Lord. God is able to work miracles to accomplish His purposes.
Ephesians 3:20 - “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
We are preserved and comforted, encouraged, and strengthened by grace.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 - “Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.”
Grace is a big deal. The very last words in our Bible:
Revelation 22:21 - “May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s holy people.”
Amen.
