#1 - Leave an inheritance of faith

What is an inheritance ?

It is being rooted to the fear of the lord, love for his word, and a life of righteousness

Proverbs 13:22

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.

Deuteronomy 4:8

And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?

Psalm 78:4

We will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

● Leave an inheritance of faith that leads our generation to Jesus ( 1 John 2:26-17 ; Isaiah 40:8 )

Hebrews 11:8-9

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise;

Abraham’s inheritance of faith is rooted in his willingness, readiness, trust and obeying GOD

Genesis 12:1-5

Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.

Romans 4:18-21

who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Hebrews 11:17-19

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, of whom it was said, “In Isaac your seed shall be called,” concluding that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead, from which he also received him in a figurative sense.

‭‭

3 key aspects of Abraham’s inheritance…

[ 1 ] - Obedience to GOD’s calling

Genesis 12:1-3

Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

● Faith requires obedience

● Obedience requires action

1 Theological truth :

Obedience comes before understanding

( 2 Corinthians 5:7 )

[ 2 ] - Trust in GOD’s promises

Isaiah 26:3-4

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength.

‭‭

Hebrews 6:12

that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

● Faith is trusting in GOD’s promises ( Romans 4:18-21 )

Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭20‬-‭21‬

He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

● Trusting in GOD’s promises is holding onto his word ( Ephesians 3:20 ; Psalm 121:1-8 ; Hebrews 11:11-12 , 17-19 )

‭‭ ‭

What promises from scripture are you holding onto today ?

[ 3 ] - Leaving an inheritance of faith for future generations

Genesis 22:15-18

Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

‭‭

● Faith inspires future generations   ( Titus 2:11-12 )

Qn :

● What inheritance of faith am i leaving behind for the next generation ?

● What steps will you take from now to build a legacy and leave an inheritance of faith that will impact our children and future generations ?

Faith is not passive; its an active, ongoing response to GOD’s call ( 2 Corinthians 13:5 )
