Living Out Our Justification (Romans 5:1-11)

Sermon on 10 June 2025 by Pastor Justin

Introduction

The word ‘justification’ in Greek (‘dikaiosis’) is a legal term. It represents sinners being acquitted, being made holy, being declared righteous. Although we are all sinners, we are justified based on your faith.

Message

God declares sinners righteous based on faith in Jesus Christ!

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

Don’t go back to sin. Always remind yourself that the Holy Spirit dwells in you. Live out your justification in a way that reflects your justified status. Romans 13:14 tells us not to feed our flesh, and we will not fulfil the will of the lust of the flesh.

1. Live in peace with God and stand firm in His grace (Romans 5:1-2)

You need to have peace with God, in order to have peace ofGod. You need to have a relationship with God; be reconciled with God. Then, you can have a life filled with the peace of God. Philippians 4:7 tells us that the peace of God surpasses understanding, and will guard our hearts and minds.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. - Romans 5:1-2

Stand in grace, not guilt (Titus 2:11-14). Draw near to God daily (James 4:8-10).

2. Rejoice in hope and endure with purpose (Romans 5:3-5)

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. - Romans 5:3-5

Respond to challenges with faith, hope and love, not fear (Romans 8:28; Colossians 1:11). Allow your suffering to refine you, rather than define you (Romans 8:38-39).

3. Live from the overflow of God’s love (Romans 5:8)

God is love. The more you love, the more you experience God. Allow God’s love to shape your identity and actions (1 John 4:7-11; Romans 8:37; Ephesians 3:17-19). Stand firm in His love, manifested in loving one another. Rejoice in reconciliation - live joyfully and gratefully as God’s child (2 Corinthians 5:18).

Closing

As a justified child of God, you are to reflect His nature, to stand in grace, to endure in hope, and to walk in love. Live out our justification by walking with Him, growing in Him, and living for Him.
