Isaiah 26:4
[4] Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
Background to the Book of Isaiah :
60 years of ministry, spanning Kings Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah of Judah
( 2 Kings 15:1-6, 32-38 & 16 & 18 ) .
Prophesies by Isaiah mainly for Judah, but also applies to Northern Israel. Used the example of Northern Israel as a grim lesson to Judah. Also spoke about future events ( Eg. exile of Judah to Babylon ). Warnings to surrounding nations. In the end, Isiah offered a message of hope and comfort for Judah, promising GOD's restoration after punishment was completed
Context of Isaiah 26 :
First read :
24 ( Destruction of the earth )
25 ( Day of judgement and salvation )
Then read 26 ( A song of praise to the Lord and restoration for Israel ). Isaiah 26 starts in verse 1 and ends verse 20-21.
" In that day " = Jesus coming again = A new Jerusalem = A new heaven
But first, the Lord's punishment and judgement first.
Isaiah 26:1, 20-21
[1] In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of GOD’s salvation.
[20] Go home, my people, and lock your doors! Hide yourselves for a little while until the Lord’s anger has passed. [21] Look! The Lord is coming from heaven to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will no longer hide those who have been killed. They will be brought out for all to see.
Before trusting in the Lord forever, do what you must to be in the Lord forever.
Before we even discuss trusting in the Lord forever.
Philippians 2:12b
[12] ..., it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.
Work hard to show the results of your salvation obeying GOD with deep reverence and fear
Isaiah 26:1-6
[1] In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of GOD’s salvation. [2] Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter. [3] You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! [4] Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. [5] He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust. [6] The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot, and the needy walk all over it.
Trusting in the Lord forever is for...
[ 1 ] The righteous i.e. has GOD's salvation
[ 2 ] Those who trust in the Lord
[ 3 ] Whose thoughts are fixed upon GOD, i.e. not on human wisdom, selfish desires, gossips, judging others, etc
[ 4 ] Those who are humble and oppressed, i.e. not proud in spirit, not taking authority and justice into own hands
Why can you trust in the Lord forever?
Isaiah 26:1, 4
[1] ...Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of GOD's salvation.
[4] Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
What will the Lord do for you ?
Isaiah 26:7, 11
[7] But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a GOD who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.
[11]...Show them your eagerness to defend your people...
How do we trust in the Lord forever ?
Don't allow yourself to be sucked in the NOW. You need the " Forever mentality ".
What last forever ?
The " Forever mentality "
Isaiah 26:13-14
[13] O Lord our GOD, others have ruled us, but you alone are the one we worship. [14] Those we served before are dead and gone. Their departed spirits will never return! You attacked them and destroyed them, and they are Long forgotten.
[ 1 ] Set yourself right to qualify for trusting in the Lord forever!
[ 2 ] Trusting in the Lord because he is strong and eternal!
[ 3 ] GOD will smoothen your paths and defend you!
[ 4 ] You can trust by looking beyond the NOW, having the " forever mentality " ! Use your Spiritual eyes!
