Your Best Days Lie Ahead (Revelation 19:1-9)

Little Flock Church

Sermon on 27 November 2022 by Ps Justin

Revelation 19:1-9 - “After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, “Praise the Lord! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants.” And again their voices rang out: “Praise the Lord! The smoke from that city ascends forever and ever!” Then the twenty-four elders and the four living beings fell down and worshiped God, who was sitting on the throne. They cried out, “Amen! Praise the Lord!” And from the throne came a voice that said, “Praise our God, all his servants, all who fear him, from the least to the greatest.” Then I heard again what sounded like the shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: “Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”” For Christians, the best of the best day is the second coming of Jesus. The four living beings were angelic beings. Revelation 19:7-9 - “Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”” The word wife is a symbolic name referring to the church. The book of revelation is about future events. This is the book of completion. We are living in a church age time. Revelation 1:3 - “God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.” The first 3 chapters are the church age. It is when Jesus descended. Chapter 4 onwards is the rapture of the church. Rapture is not a word you can find in the Bible. But the concept is clearly written in the Bible. From Chapter 6 to 18, it is about the fall of the Babylonians. The great tribulation. Chapter 19 is the second coming of Jesus. It occured in 2 phases - air and earth. The second coming of Jesus is very soon. We need to be ready so that we don’t need to ‘get ready’. Jesus is our precious bridegroom. The church is not building bricks and steel. It is the assembly of the saints. We are the bride of Jesus. After the second coming, there will be a great white throne judgement. Chapter 21 and 22 talks about a new Earth. Revelation 22:7 - ““Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book. ”” Revelation 22:14 - “Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will be permitted to enter through the gates of the city and eat the fruit from the tree of life.” It is important for us to do the word of God. In the book of the beginning, Genesis, there was no sin in the first 3 chapters. Then sin entered men. God chased Adam and Eve out of the garden as the sinful nature would continue to partake the tree of life. People won’t die. In the book of completion, it says he who obey would be given the right to the tree of life. We must remember to obey and do the word of God. After the complete destruction of the Babylonians, John, who penned these down, heard that it was triumphant. Babylon was a symbol of the wicked world system. Revelation 19:1-2 - “After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, “Praise the Lord! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants.”” How can Christians get out of the Babylonian spirit? We have to bear the cross and bear the fruit of the spirit. We don’t give in to the lust of the flesh. We have to guard our hearts and minds. Revelation 19:7 - “Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself.” ‭‭ This is a typology of a Jewish marriage. It is parallel to what happened in the New Testament. There were 3 stages. The father of the groom will go to the bride’s father to discuss marriage plans. They can start discussing as young as 2 years old. It is all based on discussion. If they agreed on everything, they would pay a dowry. It can be in the form of livestock, anything they agreed upon. When the bride and groom grow up, they would go away. Jewish families had 2-3 generations living in a home. A year later, they would return back secretly and receive the bride and have celebrations. That’s where they consummate their marriage. Jesus paid a very expensive dowry to purchase us. He died on the cross and paid through his precious blood. Jesus said He is coming quickly. The bride is ready. Matthew 25:10 - ““But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked.” In the story of the 10 virgins, 5 foolish virgins didn’t carry oil while the other 5 wise ones carried oil. To be ready, you cannot borrow from others. You cannot borrow faith to serve Jesus. It is about you being ready. The wise virgins who were ready entered the marriage. Let your vessel be filled with holiness and obedience. You will bear the fruit of righteousness. At the marriage of the lamb, the church is the bride of Christ. We are the bride of Jesus. It is a time of triumph and delight. Our best days lie ahead. Let’s have a shift from a worldly mindset to a kingdom mindset. When you shift your perspective, you realise that the life on Earth is so temporal. 1. Heaven’s multitude shouted Alleluia Revelation 19:1-6 - “After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, “Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.” Alleluia, or Hallelujah, means praise the Lord. It is a glorious chorus of Alleluia sung by all of Christ’s faithful believers, including those from the Old Testament. The bridegroom is Christ, and the bride is church. 2. The door to heaven is open Revelation 4:1 - “Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”” In phase 1 when Jesus returns, the door to heaven is open for the raptured church. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 - “And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.” 1 Corinthians 15:50-54 - “What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever. But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” In phase 2, there will be war against the kings of the Earth, Satan, the Antichrist and the false prophet. In the first coming, Jesus entered Jerusalem through a donkey. In the second coming, he would be coming in a white horse. Revelation 19:11 - “Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.” 3. A sharp sword to strike the nations Jesus strike the nations not through weapons. He uses the word of God. The faithful are not to engage in the battle but to observe Jesus in victory. Jesus conquers with the word. Many pre believing people think that when someone dies, their life just ends like that. However, our soul is eternal and never dies. Revelation 19:16 - “On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all Lords.” When Jesus lowered himself to the point of death, God exalted Him to the highest point. Jesus and Jesus alone is above all things, natural and supernatural. 4. The beast and the false prophet are vanquished by Jesus Revelation 19:20-21 - “And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. Their entire army was killed by the sharp sword that came from the mouth of the one riding the white horse. And the vultures all gorged themselves on the dead bodies.” There are 2 suppers. One is the supper of the lamb, the one we are waiting for. The other is the supper of the great God. It is judgement on everyone. Jesus will hurl them ‘alive into the lake of fire’. Jesus destroys all that had campaigned and blasphemed against him. Jesus will return to set up his millennial kingdom (one thousand years) upon the earth. Isaiah 65:17-25 - ““Look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth, and no one will even think about the old ones anymore. Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy. I will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more. “No longer will babies die when only a few days old. No longer will adults die before they have lived a full life. No longer will people be considered old at one hundred! Only the cursed will die that young! In those days people will live in the houses they build and eat the fruit of their own vineyards. Unlike the past, invaders will not take their houses and confiscate their vineyards. For my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will have time to enjoy their hard-won gains. They will not work in vain, and their children will not be doomed to misfortune. For they are people blessed by the Lord, and their children, too, will be blessed. I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! The wolf and the lamb will feed together. The lion will eat hay like a cow. But the snakes will eat dust. In those days no one will be hurt or destroyed on my holy mountain. I, the Lord, have spoken!”” The great days are coming very quickly. With justice and love and no hidden or personal agenda. The best is yet to come! rejoice and look forward to it! Amen.
